Day 1: Brussels and Aachen
We take the lunchtime Eurostar departure from St.
Pancras International station to Brussels and then
continue by high speed train to Aachen for an
overnight stay.
Day 2: Via Hannover to Wernigerode
We continue our journey east via Hannover arriving
in Wernigerode in the late afternoon. We transfer to
our top quality hotel, the Weisser Hirsch, located
centrally in a prime position on the market square,
beneath the castle. Here a very warm welcome awaits
us and our stay is on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 3: Discover Wernigerode
Whether you would like to climb up to the castle or
simply have a ride on the train, the day is free for
you to spend as you wish. Wernigerode is a
picturesque place with many medieval, half-timbered
houses. There are lots of different places to eat
and the town is a joy to explore.
Day 4: Double headed Mallets
After a coach transfer to Quedlinburg we join our
train for Wernigerode. This is to be a mixed
heritage train hauled by two of the HSB’s Mallets.
Wonderful photographic opportunities.
Day 5: Drei Annen Hohne and the Brocken
Today we join our Heritage train to Drei Annen Hohne.
After a guided walk along the line to Steinerne
Renne, we return to Wernigerode and head out of the
town, taking the splendid rail route to the Brocken,
reaching 1,141 metres, the highest peak in Northern
Germany.
Day 6: Return home
After a leisurely breakfast we take the 0917
regional train back to Hannover, continuing by high
speed onto London via Cologne and Brussels. Arrival
in London is scheduled for 1903.
If you’re feeling hungry the ICE from Hannover to
Köln has a restaurant on board and the train to
Brussels has a bistro.
