Our annual visit to Switzerland takes us to
Wilderswil to celebrate Christmas and Chur for New
Year. Beautiful Alpine settings to enjoy the
festivities, relax and explore.
Day 1 Sit back and relax
We travel Leisure Select with at-seat service on
Eurostar to Paris, then continue in first class
seats on the TGV to Strasbourg for an overnight
stay.
Day 2 To the Bernese Oberland
Our route today takes us into Germany, then on a
through train from Offenburg via Basel to Spiez from
where we have a coach transfer to the Hotel Bären in
the village of Wilderswil. This will be our home for
the next six nights and we are assured of a warm
welcome in this most friendly of hotels.
Days 3 to 7 A relaxing Christmas
You are free to explore with your first class
unlimited travel Swiss Pass and your tour leader
will be happy to assist you to get best value from
your time here. Be sure to return in time for the
Christmas Eve buffet party at the hotel and, by the
way, trains run normally over the holiday period,
including Christmas Day.
Day 8 The Glacier Express
What could be better for Christmas than a trip on
the legendary Glacier Express. We have a coach
transfer to Spiez to connect with a main line train
over the Lötschberg Pass to Brig where we meet the
Glacier Express. Now we travel in panoramic comfort
up the Rhône Valley, over the Oberalp Pass and down
the upper reaches of the Rhine to our next base in
Chur.
Days 9 to 11 New Year in Chur
The winter sports season has just begun in the
famous resorts of St. Moritz, Klosters and Davos and
you can be there too by hourly train service from
Chur – free of charge on your pass! A New Year’s Eve
meal has been arranged at a restaurant in Chur
(included).
Day 12 Chur to Mulhouse
A morning’s journey via Basel takes us over the
border into France. Mulhouse is our final stop and
we arrive at lunchtime in time for a little
sightseeing. The railway museum should be open and
is well worth a visit.
Day 13 Home via Paris
We take the TGV to Paris and Eurostar to London,
arriving mid afternoon.
